LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:Alexandra Kazyrevič: Vital Records in the Russian Empire and Soviet Union: Systems, Laws, and Current Access\n\n08/27/26 02:00 PM EST\n - 08/27/26 03:00 PM EST\Description:\nFinding birth, marriage, and death records in the former Russian Empire and Soviet Union is challenging even for professional genealogists because these records are now scattered across many different countries, each with its own archival system and access laws. This presentation provides an overview of birth, marriage, and death registration systems from the Imperial period through the Soviet era to present day, examining how administrative changes and shifting borders impact research strategies. The presentation covers current locations of historical records, access restrictions, and practical strategies for obtaining documents.\Details:\nAbout the Presenter\nAlexandra Kazyrevič is an international professional genealogist specializing in family history research in the Czech Republic, Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. Her work includes research in archives, libraries, museums, and cemeteries. She also reads and translate old Cyrillic texts, making historical sources accessible to foreign researchers. In addition, she works as a probate genealogist for international heirs.\n\nIn Prague, she organizes PragueGen, an annual genealogy conference for both professionals and enthusiasts - refugees or emigrants from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus - focusing on family history and migration connected with Central and Eastern Europe.
